Health Informatics Specialist

Amida is seeking a Health Informatics Specialist to analyze healthcare data. They gather pertinent healthcare data, develop effective information systems and procedures.

What you will be doing:

  • Conduct data architecture, knowledge architecture, and semantic interoperability-based evaluations on priority data sources and repositories within VA to assess the readiness of clinical data to support HRO tenets (e.g., zero patient harm, the culture of learning)
  •  Identify opportunities for Semantic translation—and information presentation—that facilitates clinical understanding and improved reporting and/or analytics.
  •  Identify opportunities for improving the coherence of the underlying terminologies and data representations in a manner that reduces system complexity and is consistent with the HRO principle.

What we are looking for:

  • Certification (e.g., RHIT, RHIA, CHDA, CHPS) or Bachelor’s degree in health administration, computer sciences, or a related field
  • Master’s degree in health informatics preferred
  • 2-5 years experience as a health informatics specialist or clinical informaticist
  • Advanced proficiency in a general-purpose programming language for data analysis (Python, R) 
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL and database management
  • Proficiency with the data schema of at least one major EHR vendor (Cerner, Epic, Athenahealth, Allscripts, eClinicalWorks), especially Cerner terminologies (Code Sets, Event Codes, Event Set Hierarchy).
  • Knowledge of health information system design and best practices in healthcare information management 
  • Superb analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills 
  • Veteran’s Affairs (VA) experience a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL stack (SQL Server, SSMS, SSIS) or InterSystems Caché a plus
  • Experience advising generalist data analysts on interrogating healthcare datasets a plus
